What your result means
Your age is shown as complete years, complete months and remaining days, which is exactly how age is written on forms, affidavits and medical records. The next birthday line tells you how many days are left and which day of the week it falls on. Born on is the weekday of your birth.
The second row gives the same age as a single number: total months, weeks, days and hours lived. These are useful for milestones (your 10,000th day), for infant age in weeks, and for curiosity.
How to use this age calculator
- Enter your date of birth using the date picker. On most phones it opens a calendar; on a computer you can type the date.
- The age on date field defaults to today. Change it to a cut-off date if you are checking eligibility for a job, exam or scheme.
- The result updates instantly. Use Share to send the link or Print / PDF to keep a copy.
How the calculation works, with a worked example
Age is computed by stepping forward from the date of birth in whole calendar units rather than by dividing total days by 365:
- Count complete years: the largest number of years that can be added to the birth date without passing the target date.
- Count complete months after that.
- The remaining days are the gap between that stepped date and the target date.
When a month is shorter than the birth day of month (for example 31 January plus one month), the stepped date is clamped to the last day of the month (28 or 29 February). This matches how most official age calculations and age-proof certificates count.
Worked example (computed by this tool’s own function): date of birth 15 May 1990, age on 31 October 2026.
- Complete years: 15 May 1990 → 15 May 2026 = 36 years
- Complete months: 15 May 2026 → 15 October 2026 = 5 months
- Remaining days: 15 October → 31 October 2026 = 16 days
- Total days lived: 13,318, total weeks: 1,902, total hours: 3,19,632
- Born on a Tuesday; next birthday in 196 days, on a Saturday

Special cases and common mistakes
- Cut-off dates on forms. Age limits such as “18 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027” are checked on that date, not on the day you apply. Enter the cut-off date in the second field. Being even one day over the limit can make an application invalid.
- “Completed years” vs “running year”. Most official rules use completed years. Someone who is 17 years and 364 days old is 17, not 18. Some informal and astrological traditions count the running (18th) year instead.
- Leap-day births. If you were born on 29 February, your birthday is observed on 28 February in non-leap years for official purposes. Some organisations use 1 March; check the specific rule if it matters.
- Date format confusion. India writes dates as DD-MM-YYYY, while many websites use MM-DD-YYYY. The date picker avoids this problem; if you type the date, double-check the month and day.
- Time zones. Age is calculated from calendar dates only, so the time of birth and time zone do not affect the result.
- Future dates. A date of birth after the “age on” date is rejected. To count days until a future event, swap the two dates.
Frequently asked questions
How is age calculated exactly?
The calculator counts complete years from your date of birth, then complete months, then the remaining days, using real calendar month lengths and leap years. Someone born on 15 May 1990 is 36 years, 5 months and 16 days old on 31 October 2026.
Which date should I use for a government job or exam form?
Forms usually specify a cut-off date such as '1 January 2027' or 'the last date of application'. Enter that date in the 'Age on date' field instead of today to see your age exactly as the form will count it.
What if I was born on 29 February?
In years that are not leap years, your birthday is counted on 28 February. The calculator follows this convention, so a person born on 29 Feb 2000 completes 25 years on 28 Feb 2025.
Does the calculator work for any date in the past?
Yes. You can enter any 'age on date', including a date in the past, as long as it is on or after the date of birth. This is useful for checking age at the time of an old event or document.
Why does the total days figure not match years × 365?
Because of leap years. Every fourth year (with century exceptions) has 366 days, so 2 years from 1 January 2024 is 731 days, not 730.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to or stored on our servers.
